and about Rob Roy
No one really knows the exact day Rob Roy MacGregor was born but it was on the 7th day of March 1671 that Rob Roy MacGregor was baptized.
Back then in Scotland, christenings usually took place within a week of the birth which is why some records show him as being born on the 1st of March.
Rob Roy MacGregor was born in Glen Gyle at the head of Loch Katrine in the Trossachs. He was the third son of clan chieftain Donald Glas MacGregor of Glen G
Gyle.
His mother Margaret was a Campbell, and it is said that it was from her that he inherited his red hair, leading to his nickname, Rob Ruadh (Gaelic for Red) which was later anglicised into Rob Roy.
As he was being baptized this day, it would have been impossible for his parents to truly imagine the kind of life he would lead and eventually become one of Scotland’s most well-known historical figures.
