Frequently Asked Questions

Is breakfast included in the room rate?

The room rate includes breakfasts. Standard for all customers is the Scottish breakfast of Bacon, Sausage, Black pudding or Sliced Haggis, Egg, Tomato, Mushrooms and a Tatty Scone. In addition there is cereal, orange juice and toast. I am happy to provide alternatives if you let me know when you make your booking what you would like; I have provided vegetarian breakfasts and so far once a Vegan offering.

Do you offer any outdoor activities?

(Currently March 25) I hope to have a green bowling lane and a petanque (Boules) court by this summer. I currently have a boat jetty and access to a slip way if you have your own boat or paddle boards. Of course wild swimming is available straight from the front door.

Can you help us with the history of the area.

The area is steeped in Jacobite history and I am pleased to make local trips with you to show you items of historic interest.

I saw that you are Eco-friendly what measures have you taken?

The cottage has had a complete new heating system installed based on a ground source heat pump (GSHP) all the rooms in the cottage are heated by underfloor heating. All the lighting is modern LED lights. All windows are double glazed and the architect who prepared the necessary documentation assures me that I have more insulation than over 99% of the housing stock in Scotland.

Currently I am developing the garden with the same ecofriendly attitude, eventually I hope to be able to recycle all food waste on site with a Grandfather, father, son composting system already started and intention to acquire a hotbox for recycling protein to garden waste. I have the help of a gardener who is very keen on eco cultivation... so we will succeed!

Do you provide evening meals?

The cottage is over 3 miles from Aberfoyle so if during your stay you would like an evening meal I am able to offer a meal by negotiation. I am not a restaurant so there will not be an extensive menu but I am able to provide maybe two alternative starters and two alternative main courses. For fairly standard meals the price would be two courses £20.00 and three courses £25.00. I do not have a liquor licence (yet) and so I am happy for modest drinkers to bring their own (BYOB)

In the twin room can the beds be pushed togther to make one bed?

The beds I purchased from a well known Swedish supplier have frames in which the mattress sits inside the frame. So the closest the beds get together is 8" apart but as the building is a cottage (with cottage sized rooms) the furthest apart that the beds fit in the room is also 8".
